Barpeta, Feb. 5: The abductors of Beliram Das, the Barpeta branch manager of Central Bank of India, today called his family in Guwahati for the second time after he was kidnapped, and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.
Barpeta SP Shiva Prasad Ganjawala said, “We have unearthed some clues about the identity of the abductors, but are unable to disclose details in the interest of Das’ security. We are trying our best to rescue the bank officer.”
Das, 57, a resident of Geetanagar area in Guwahati, was whisked away by gunmen from his rented house in Barpeta on Thursday night.
Leaders of the officers’ union of the bank today visited Barpeta, met the police and administration officials and demanded Das’ safe release.
