Sen ill, cancels visit
Patna: Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s visit to the state has been cancelled, as he fell ill after arriving in Shantiniketan in Bengal on Thursday. Sen was scheduled to address a meeting and release a report prepared by the Centre for Economic Policy and Public Finance on Friday.
He was also scheduled to visit Nalanda International University at Rajgir, of which he is a mentor.
Patna: Patna High Court additional district and sessions judge VIII, Ajit Kumar Sinha, on Thursday found Pankaj Kumar (30), Jitendra Singh (38) and Tarkeshwar Manjhi (60), residents of Mokama, guilty of raping and murdering a deaf girl, Gungi Devi, on August 30. The court will pronounce the sentence on February 9.
Patna: Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius, the chairman of Mar Gregarious Orthodox Education Institute and Metropolitan of Indian Orthodox Church, Calcutta will be coming to Patna on Friday. Dionysius, a winner of the American Biographical Institute “Man of the Year, 2003” will attend the annual day function of Mar Gregarious Mission School at Digha Ghat on February 5.
Patna: Jakkanpur police arrested one Sonam Karn, her husband Govind Karn and their associate A.K. Jawahar for their involvement in flesh trade. The police team led by Jakkanpur station house officer Rajbind Prasad also rescued a newly wed woman.
Patna: The sleuths of the vigilance investigation bureau arrested a block development officer, Mithilesh Kumar from Parawalpur in Nalanda district while he was taking Rs 10,000 as bribe from the mukhiya of Shankerdih panchayat, Mohan Lal on Friday.
Patna: Rohtas police arrested a man from Sagar police station area on Thursday while he was extorting money from truck operators on Grand Trunk Road posing as to be the district transport officer.
