Ranchi, Jan. 27: Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) president R.K. Anand played troubleshooters yesterday, settling many a dispute between warring factions of state sports bodies.
During an hour-long meeting last evening, Anand was categorical on the selection of the women’s hockey team for the National Games.
He said the committee sent to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) by the JOA would field the team, and “any change made by IOA without consulting us will not be acceptable”.
He asked Savitry Purty, former international player and secretary of the erstwhile Women’s Hockey Association, to form the women’s team, and challenger Peer Mohammed to form the men’s team. “It is time we forget our differences and work together to make the National Games a success,” he said before leaving for New Delhi today.
Meanwhile, NGOC organising secretary S.M. Hashmi has written a letter to the technical director of IOA for goal posts with cross bars, rugby balls, side line flags and flag poles.
