Unique code for CAs

Coimbatore, Jan. 23: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India will introduce unique code numbers from next month for chartered accountants (CAs) to help them to check increasing incidents of fraudulent practices, including forged attestations, ICAI president Amarjit Chopra said. Once introduced, ICAI would ask banks to insist on the unique code numbers, as people file different balance sheets for various purposes without the knowledge or approval of the CAs.

Google reward

New York, Jan. 23: Google Inc will give a $100-million equity award to outgoing chief executive Eric Schmidt, who in April will be succeeded by company co-founder Larry Page, The Wall Street Journal has reported. It is the first such award for Schmidt since he joined the company in 2001.

Tax target

Chennai, Jan. 23: Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee today said the targets for direct and indirect tax collections would be raised for this fiscal and asked officials to intensify investigation against tax evasion.
