Sumit eyes triple crown
Delhi’s Sumit Nagal is on course for a triple crown at the Sunfeast Super Series 2011. Having already won the boys’ singles Under-14 and the boys’ doubles Under-16, Nagal has a chance to pick up the boys’ singles Under-16 title. In the Under-14 final, Nagal defeated fourth-seed Sachin Kumar of Chandigarh 6-1,6-1.
ITF event
The ONGC-ITF junior tennis meet, organised by DKS, will be held at the club courts from January 24 to 29. Worit Sornbutnark of Thailand is the top seed in the boys’ section, while Russia’s Anna Typla got the top billing in the girls’.
School sports
Forty schools will participate in the Calcutta Schools Sports meet at the Pailan Complex from Saturday. Devang Gandhi and Jose Ramirez Barreto were present at a press conference to announce the event, sponsored by Emami, on Friday.
Bagan signings
Mohun Bagan have signed Deepak Mandal and Anwar Ali, who were part of the senior national team for the Asian Cup, on Friday.
Hockey meet
CC&FC will be hosting the eighth edition of the Bengal 6’s Hockey Tournament from January 22 to 23.
The tournament is conducted under the auspices of the Bengal Hockey Association.
