Rupam shines in GTC win

Guwahati, Jan. 21: An unbeaten 44 by Ram Kripal Gupta and a six-wicket haul by Rupam Mishra fashioned a 33-run victory for host Gauhati Town Club (GTC) against Phoenix Club, Sivasagar, in today’s league match of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy invitation cricket tournament at Judges Field here today.

Put in to bat, the GTC men were restricted to a decent total of 174 for seven wickets in the stipulated 30 overs and the visitors were all out for 141 in 27 overs.

Apart from Gupta’s knock, Naba Kalita scored 33 and Nitin Das 32. Shyam Gurung of the Sivasagar outfit scalped three wickets for 35 runs while Utpal Saikia and Rajindra Lal shared two each for 27 and 16 respectively. For Phoenix, Bharat Newar scored 40 and Utpal Saikia 35. Rupam Mishra’s six for 19 included a hattrick for which he was eventually named Man of the Match. Deep Borah also picked up two for 33. Tomorrow, Radial Club, Nagaon, will meet Titan Club, Guwahati.
