Mobile shop burgled

Siliguri, Jan. 19: A cellphone shop on Hill Cart Road was burgled last night with around 700 handsets reported missing.

Police sources said, the robbers had entered the shop through the main entrance. “The caretaker informed us this morning that the main shutter of the shop was broken. I rushed to the spot and found around 600 to 700 cellphones were stolen,” said Dipankar Sengupta, the owner. Sengupta said handsets worth over lakhs were taken away. He has lodged a complaint with the Siliguri police. “We are investigating the case. We are also checking the CCTV footage of the building. Nobody has been arrested so far,” an official of the Siliguri police station, said.


Clash verdict

Islampur: The judicial magistrate of Islampur court, Suvra Bhattacharya, ordered one month’s rigorous imprisonment to five residents of Dhantala in Islampur on Wednesday for beating up two persons of the same locality about five years ago. Manabendramohan Sarkar, the assistant public prosecutor, said the convicted are Md Mukjul, Md Safiqul, Md Ansarul, Md Illias and Md Sultan. On February 4, 2006, they had beaten up Md Nasiruddin and Md Islamuddin during a clash over the possession of a plot of land.


Kho kho meet

Siliguri: The Siliguri Mahakuma Kho kho Parishad will organise the Sub-junior National Kho Kho Championship from January 22. The five-day tournament, in association with the Kho kho Federation of India and the West Bengal Kho kho Association, will be held at the Kanchenjungha Stadium. The tourney will end on January 26.


Train timings

Siliguri: The 12423 Rajdhani Express, scheduled to leave Guwahati at 7.05am on Thursday, will leave the station at 8.30pm. The 12346 Saraighat Express which was scheduled to leave Guwahati at 12.45pm on Thursday will leave at 10pm. The 14055 Brahmaputra Mail that was to leave Dibrugarh at 11.10pm on Wednesday will leave the station 11.30am on Thursday and the 15960 Kamrup Express scheduled to leave Dibrugarh at 6.25pm on Wednesday has been rescheduled to10.30am on Thursday, the Northeast Frontier Railway has said.
