Opore thakle alo dey, kachhe ashle jholse dey... Thats Suryas (Jeet) warning to a bunch of goons, which pretty much sets the tone of Fighter and makes the weekend evening crowd at Bijoli cinema break out in yet another round of cheers and whistles.
In his third film on the trot with Jeet and Shrabanti — after Wanted and Josh — director Ravi Kinnagi punches revenge with romance to make a potboiler that keeps the ceetis and taalis going for the full two-hour-and-45-minutes of its running time.
The plot: ACP Bose is an honest cop (Ferdous) on the mission to nail Section Shankar (Bharat Kaul), a mafia land-grabber who runs his racket under the patronage of the police top brass (Biplab Chatterjee is the corrupt DIG).
Surya, Boses college-going brother who picks a fight with anyone in the wrong, has another pastime — wooing his campus crush Indu (Shrabanti). One of his friends, who is involved in covering up Shankars tracks, is also in love with Indu. He gets Shankar to kidnap Indu, but Surya rips through the hideout and rescues the damsel in distress. Suryas cop bro is hot on Shankars heels but the chase ends in tragedy — with the death of Bose.
The second half is all about how Surya the romantic boy evolves into Surya the vengeful fighter with rippling muscles, leaving a trail of blood behind him. Ashish Vidyarthi makes an appearance in a Tolly film after a lull as the new DIG who sympathises with and shields Surya.
Watch out for: Jeets six pack — it does look good on him. And his singing and dancing with lady love Shrabanti, whos getting sexier by the film. Ferdous fits the bill of a tough cop and he should experiment more with the moustache like the other Tolly men. Indraadip Dasguptas soundtrack — the foot-tapping Jaye re jaye re mon banjara is the best — makes you hum a few lines by the time the end credits start rolling. |
