| The essence of Tagore |
|
As a befitting prelude to the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Tagore, Academy Theatre hosts Rabi Bichitra, a week-long festival on the different facets of the Poet’s genius. Featuring an exhibition of visuals and paintings on and by Tagore, apart from seminars, film shows and stage productions, the festival will also witness the release of Rabindranather Manchagaan, a CD of theatre-songs of Tagore, along with the publication of a commemorative volume. The various presentations will survey how Tagore was influenced by his predecessors and then proceeds to demonstrate his dominance over his successors even till the present day. The festival does a comprehensive and comparative study of the variety of Tagore’s compositions, along with a retrospective of works reflecting the evolution of his vision and craft. On the whole, it will also trace the cross-culture of the last two centuries where indigenous and alien approaches were compelled to confront one another. Moreover, the festival attempts to bridge the dynamism of the performing arts and momentum of the popular culture of Bengal as they have manifested them over succeeding generations.
