Notice to MNC
New Delhi, Jan. 11 (PTI): Delhi police has asked a multinational to explain why a cab it had hired had failed to drop an employee at her doorstep after work.
Jag Dev, the cab driver, had been arrested last night for dropping the employee at a traffic intersection instead of her home. A senior policeman said the employer would face the music if it did not provide a satisfactory explanation.
Robbery
New Delhi (PTI): The house of a senior border policeman was allegedly robbed on Saturday. Police said some men broke into the Saket residence of Anil Negi, inspector-general with the Sashastra Seema Bal, and stole cash and jewellery. Investigations into the theft were under way.
Voting age
Bhubaneswar (PTI): The Election Commission is considering a proposal to reduce the voting age to 16 years. S.Y. Quraishi, chief election commissioner, said the poll watchdog would recommend the proposal to the government if more young people voted.
Couple death
Dehra Dun (PTI): A teenaged couple allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping onto the railway tracks at Jogiwala Badripur crossing as a train approached. Police said school authorities had a day earlier told the parents of Vicky, 17, and Parul, 16, of their relationship.
FIITJEE fees
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi consumer forum has ordered FIITJEE, a tutor for IIT entrance tests, to refund a years fees to a student who had enrolled in a two-year course but could not attend lessons after moving home. Atul Trivedi had paid over Rs 50,000 in post-tax fees.
Bug apology
New Delhi (PTI): A leading medical journal has apologised for naming an antibiotic-resistant superbug after the national capital. The editor of The Lancet, said such name-calling was best left to researchers. The article published in August had drawn more than gentle disapproval from the health ministry.
