Flight delay
Nagpur, Jan. 10 (PTI): An Air Arabia flight to Sharjah took off nine hours late from Ambedkar international airport.
Airline sources said the aircraft, which had 148 passengers on board, developed technical problems that prevented it from taking off on time at 3am. The passengers were mostly from neighbouring districts in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Surgery
Coimbatore (PTI): Doctors have removed an 11cm-long piece of shrub that had pierced a mans eye and part of his brain after a motorcycle accident last week. Dr M. Natarajan, neurosurgeon at K.G. Hospital, said Jeeva Karthik, 22, had suffered no brain damage but had lost his vision in his left eye.
Lift collapse
Mumbai (PTI): Six contract workers died on Sunday after a temporary lift collapsed in a new high-rise in suburban Matunga. Police said they had arrested Ketan Shan, whose firm was involved in building the 22-storey La Sonarisa.
Tiger dead
Udhagamandalam (PTI): A tiger, a bison and an elephant were found dead on Monday in a forest in the northern Nilgiris. Sources in the forest department said authorities would conduct a post-mortem to find out how the animals had died.
Benefit fraud
Madurai (PTI): An engineering student has been arrested for obtaining benefits from the Centre to pursue his studies after hiding that he was receiving assistance from the Tamil Nadu government. Another student at Alagappa Engineering College who had also claimed both benefits is missing, police said.
