Helpline to ensure mid-day meals

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 28: The state government has decided to reach to the people and receive complaints directly from them regarding the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme.

The department has opened a toll-free helpline ‘1800-3456722’. Mostly complaints would be received whether the children are getting six eggs per month, cooks are getting their salary and whether food is edible or not. The scheme in these government and government-aided schools is run by women’s self help groups. The toll-free numbers would remain open from 8am to 8 pm. A notification to this effect was issued jointly by the women & child welfare and school & mass education department.

The government asked all the district officials to ensure that the children are getting food in a conducive atmosphere. As per its commitment to reserve 25 per cent seats for the students belonging to the below poverty line category in the English medium schools, the school and mass education department issued a notification on Monday. However, the order has not been well accepted by the English medium school authorities.
