Three home guards killed in accident

Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on crashed into a wall near Sunabeda in Koraput on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Chandra Khemundi, Ramachandra Jani and Sanyasi Gutan. All of them worked as home guards. hey were going to Semiliguda from Sipaiput. The rider was negotiating a turn when the two-wheeler hit the boundary wall.

Cold wave

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was affected in several parts of the state because of a cold wave. Temperatures fell to as around 7°C in Phulbani on Wednesday. he mercury dipped to 10°C in Kendujhar, Sambalpur and Baripada . Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced temperatures as low as 13°C.

Drivers’ strike

Cuttack: Road communication in 10 routes was badly affected following a strike by about 80 contractual staff of Orissa State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), Cuttack zone here on Thursday. The employees, including drivers, conductors and mechanics, demanding a hike in wages and permanent employments, have been on strike since Wednesday. he protesters have also threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not fulfilled.

Principal bribe

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday registered a case against Jajpur’s Biraja Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya principal Surendranath Mishra for demanding an illegal gratification Rs 500 from one Manoj Samal for issue of a college-leaving certificate. ishra was caught by vigilance officers in his office while he was accepting the bribe. The money was recovered from the principal's possession and tests confirmed that he had accepted the bribe.

Night trains

Bhubaneswar: Running of passenger trains on the Kharagpur-Rourkela and Kharagpur-Adra sections would continue to remain suspended during night hours from 10pm to 5am till December 23 due to security reasons. So, some trains have been diverted, rescheduled and regulated.

Nalco award

Bhubaneswar: The public sector National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), a navratna company under the Union mines ministry, has received the Best Listed Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) award for its performance in significant value addition to its shareholders. he award was received by company's chairman-cum-managing director, A.K. Srivastava, from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday. alco has received this award for achieving the highest growth in market capitalisation during 2008-09, among 42 listed CPSEs, a company release said.
