BRIEFS

CM land quota

New Delhi, Dec. 6: The Bengal government today told the Supreme Court there were only 14 plots under the chief minister’s quota and that they would be merged with the general quota.

The move is being seen as an effort by the state to stop the apex court from laying down criteria for the future allotment of such plots.

Bhuniya

Purulia: State Congress chief Manas Bhuniya on Monday agreed to take up with the Centre the Purulia leadership’s request for the removal of the joint forces from the district, including the India Reserve Battalion camp in Balarampur whose personnel have been accused of killing two policemen and a civilian.

Rebel murder

Midnapore: Suspected Maoists shot dead a People’s Committee member in West Midnapore on Sunday night, accusing him of being a police informer. Local Trinamul Congress leaders said Asit Bera, a resident of Nayagram’s Bachhurkhonar village, was a party supporter. They, however, accused the CPM of murdering Bera.
