Road tragedy

Islampur, Dec. 4: The director of a training institute that functions under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India died with his younger son in a road accident on NH31 near North Dinajpur’s Islampur today.

Santosh Kumar, 42, the director of the Noida-based International Centre for Information Systems and Audit, died when his car collided with a truck. One-and-a-half-year-old Ayush was also killed. Kumar’s wife and elder son are in hospital. The family was going to Bagdogra airport from Bihar’s Purnia.

Barge trap

Calcutta: A barge from Sri Lanka got stuck in the riverbed at Hooghly Point on Saturday, probably after getting caught in circular tides created by Tiger Spring, a ship that is stuck at the same stretch since November 23.

Parties clash

Pursurah: The CPM and the Trinamul Congress fought a bomb-and bullet duel in Hooghly on Saturday. The clash broke out two days after around 50 CPM supporters, who had been driven out by Trinamul, returned to Pursurah. One constable was hit by a pebble after police intervened.
