Tunes of friendship
Love is a friendship set to music. — Joseph Campbell Time for music lovers to fasten their belts and get ready for the one event they can call their very own. Yes, it’s time for the fourth edition of the Friends Music Festival. The two-day festival is very special as it covers various popular genres of music and attracts audiences with a wide spectrum of interests. Calcuttans join in hordes, with families and friends, often spanning three generations, who enjoy the music being dished out. Within a short span, the fest has already got a devoted band of fans who await eagerly for the annual event. This year’s festival has a line-up of legends from different genres of music. The fest begins this evening with Rabindrasangeet recitals by Shivaji Chatterjee and Arundhati Holme Chowdhury, followed by Purna Das Baul’s folk songs. The evening draws to an end with a classical vocal recital by Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. Sunday (December 5) is earmarked for the hip-hop-happening crowd. The programme will begin with Amit Kumar dishing out his Bollywood hits. After his performance, the stage will be taken over by Ayub Bachchu & LRB, the internationally acclaimed band from Bangladesh. Stalls selling musical instruments among other things will add to the festival flavour. No city fest can be complete without food. A variety of food stalls will be present.
