SP survives mishap
Patna:
Sitamarhi superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Kumar Rathi had a miraculous escape, as a speeding bus rammed into his official car at Thumma village near Runnisaidpur at the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi Road on Tuesday. he SP’s official car was damaged while his driver Vashishta Kumar received injuries in the accident. The accident occurred at around 1.30pm when Rathi, along with his family, was returning to Sitamarhi from Muzaffarpur.
Rape case
Patna:
A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in a hotel at Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district on Tuesday. The alleged rapist, Mubarak Ansari (18) had lured the victim, a resident of Dah village, on the pretext of providing her a lucrative job, said a source. Deputy superintendent of police A. Ansari said the accused along with manager of the hotel, Tipu, has been arrested and sent to jail custody.
Polls
Patna:
A battalion of Bihar Military Police (BMP) will be going to Jharkhand to assist their counterparts in conducting peaceful panchayat polls. More than 18 districts of Jharkhand are Naxalite-affected. Director-general of police Neel Mani said the BMP battalions would we headed by Ashok Kumar Singh, commandant BMP Dumaroan.
Freshers’ day
Patna:
A freshers’ day programme was organised at department of computer science in the College of Commerce, Magadh University on Tuesday. Inaugurating the programme, college principal P.K. Verma said by such function enhance discipline and provide students with enthusiasm and confidence. Kumar Rajiv Ranjan, a faculty member of the department said such functions allow students to interact with each other and this develops a friendship among them.
Dowry
Patna:
Fast Track Court (II) judge Dan Pal Singh on Tuesday sentenced Kaushalya Devi (60), a resident of Parsa Bazar village in Patna district to ten-year of rigorous imprisonment for in a dowry death case. Kaushalya is convicted for the murder of her daughter-in-law Sona Devi on March 11, 2006. Sona’s husband, Kishori Chaudhury and his family had demanded Rs 20,000 and a colour TV from her. e
