Students miss books

Patna, Nov. 30: Students of Patna University owing allegiance to All India Students’ Federation (AISF) created a ruckus at Darbhanga House and at Patna University office, demanding re-opening of the political science library that has been closed for more than 10 months.

The students led by Vishwajeet Kumar, Piyush Kumar, Naveen Gautam, Sujata Kumari, Abha Kumari and others blocked the university entrance for hours over their demands.

Piyush Kumar told The Telegraph: “The students’ main demands include opening of the political science library at Darbhanga House closed for more than 10 months inconveniencing the students.” On Tuesday morning, AISF students assembled at Darbhanga House at first closing down classes before going to the university main office.

At the main office, the students closed the main gate and held hostage the officials and administrative staff members for hours. The students were demanding university officials, particularly vice-chancellor (VC) Shyamlal and Pro-VC S.I. Ahson to take action in this regard.

However, the VC was not present at the time when the students were staging the agitation. So the students held Ahson hostage for hours. The pro-VC urged the students to call off their agitation promising that the library will opened from December 1 failing which he will personally reopened the library.

Students after getting assurance from Pro-VC agreed to call off their agitation. Meanwhile, the AISF students also convened a meeting in which it was decided that AISF members would take up problems of students.

The students have also decided that if the pro V-C fails to reopen the library they will stage further agitate over the issue.
