Assam in semis

Imphal, Nov. 26: Assam moved into the semi-finals with a 3-0 win against Nagaland in the 2nd Dr T. Ao Memorial Football Tournament at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.

Nagaland got a lucky reprieve as Arunachal Pradesh held Meghalaya to a 1-1 draw.

A win could have propelled Meghalaya through over Nagaland who have four points from three games.

The Assam team ended with nine points. Assam’s Raju Konwar was awarded a red card and will miss the semi-final against Mizoram.

Jayanta Basumatary of Assam scored the first goal while Sibra Narzary and Manosh Monjit Chetia scored the next two goals.

In the other match, Meghalaya scored through a penalty goal by Tyllilang Syiem. Ganga Rimo of Arunachal Pradesh scored the equaliser from a crucial goaline pass from Techi Tasar.

Megalaya tallied two points while Arunachal Pradesh ended with one point in Pool B.

Manipur will meet Nagaland and Assam will meet Mizoram in the semi-final on Sunday.
