Swank and stark — these two words best describe the leather accessories store Urban Gypsy tucked away at 6 Dover Lane (next to the Gariahat police station). Defying the predictable Gariahat hustle, there is a strange feeling of stillness that the store greets you with. Stark white walls and strategic product display keeps the focus on the offerings while creating a sense of space.

The 900sqft store houses a staple of structured leather bags for both men and women. Small and large totes, clutch purses, hobos, satchels, women’s multi-way workbags, gym bags, across-body bags, slim-finish laptop bags and travel bags make up the product range. Plus, there is a fair dose of small leather goods like belts, coin purses, mobile covers, pencil boxes, toilet pouches and key chains.

“We are very English in our designs and there is no bling and nothing flashy about our store,” said Abhijit Dutta, CEO, Urban Gypsy Retail Pvt Ltd. Brown, beige, fawn and tan dominate the colour palette with pastels like powder pink, lilac and white keeping things muted. Some apple red and lime green feature too. Snakeskin, crocodile finish, cutwork, leather trimmings, rosettes, patchwork and subtle embroidery have been used to embellish the bags.

Also on the racks are loafers in bright as well as subtle tones for both men and women and some rosette-embellished chiffon scarves. Products range from Rs 60 to Rs 5,200.
