Bombs at cops

Calcutta, Nov. 20: Two police officers were injured when a mob, allegedly led by Trinamul supporters, hurled bombs at them during a raid in Rajarhat’s Sashan.

The mob damaged two police vehicles and tried to snatch a murder accused the cops had taken along with them. Shyamal Sarkar and Manirul Islam Sarkar suffered splinter injuries.

Divider trap

Calcutta: A speeding truck smashed the head of a man who had got stuck in the divider railings on Central Avenue while trying to squeeze through a gap between the rods. Bappa Pal, 27, was an Assam resident.

Dollar fraud

Calcutta: A youth duped an elderly man out of Rs 2.5 lakh with the bait of a dollar for every Rs 20. Jodhpur Park resident Ashish Kumar Ghosh, 72, later found that “the bag of dollars” the conman had given him had only newspapers stuffed inside.

China tourist

Darjeeling: A 19-year-old Chinese tourist has filed a police complaint alleging a youth had tried to molest her on Darjeeling’s Nehru Road on Friday evening.

Rebel kidnap

Midnapore: Maoists allegedly abducted a teacher and a woman worker involved with the Integrated Child Development Scheme in West Midnapore on Friday.

Metro nod

Calcutta: The state government on Saturday cleared the 16.72km Joka-BBD Bag Metro Rail project.
