Hostage rescued
Imphal, Nov. 16:
Police today rescued a Manipur University staff, who was abducted by Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak on November 11, and arrested two cadres of the outfit. Four suspected rebels had abducted Thongam Dolan Meitei, 32, from the university and had demanded Rs 72 lakh for his release.
Condolence
Dhubri:
Members of Indian Medical Association and Assam Medical Service Association, Dhubri, met on Tuesday to condole the death of Dr Ramani Talukder, the sub-divisional health and medical officer of Dhubri civil hospital. Talukder, 55, passed away at his residence at Pathsala in Barpeta district on November 14. He is survived by his mother, wife, a son and a daughter.
Electrocution
Dhubri:
Palan Ali, 27, of Jaleswar Beel village in Goalpara district was electrocuted on Monday night when he came in contact with a live electric wire while repairing an electric line.

Guwahati:
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi had directed health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to set up 50 new hospitals in minority-dominated areas.
