Dibrugarh, Nov. 16: Holders Moran Town Club edged pastBarekuri Regional Sports Association 4-3 via tie-breaker to enter the final of the 7th Capt. Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament currently under way at the Chowkidingee playground here today.
The tournament, which is registered with the Assam Football Association (AFA), is organised by 18 Jat Regiment of Dah Division of the army with assistance from the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA).
Despite several attempts being made by both the sides during the 90 minutes of regulation time, neither side could score any goal.
Both the sides tried desperately to score, particularly during the second half.
Barun Chutia of Barekuri was given marching orders by referee Pradip Saikia in the 46th minute for rough play and arguing with the referee.
Gobin Urang, Tridip Garki, Jaldeep Khatriya and Parasu Kerketa scored during the penalty shootout while Kokiram Mayeng missed out for Moran.
For Barekuri, Bhuban Chutia, Benu Chutia and Sahajyoti Kalita managed to score while Unit Chowra and Robin Chutia missed out.
Tinsukia Railways will clash with 25 Sector Assam Rifles in the second semi-final tomorrow.
