Ex-minister dead

Agartala, Nov. 13: Rabindra Debbarma, the general secretary of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura, died at GB Hospital in Agartala at 7am on Saturday. He was 55 and is survived by his wife and two children.

Protest

Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh University Post- Graduate Students Union and Dibrugarh University unit of the All Assam Students Union on Saturday alleged anomalies in the appointment of vice-chancellor Kandarpa Kumar Deka.

Minors drown

Sivasagar: Two boys, Biswajit Gogoi, 6, and Inamul Hussain, 7, drowned in the Dikhow river at Amgurighat in Sivasagar district while swimming on Saturday morning. Police fished out the bodies.

Fire

Dhubri: Two shops and a residential building were gutted in a fire while two adjoining houses were partially damaged in Gauripur market in Dhubri district on Friday night.

Accident

Dhubri: Eighteen passengers travelling in two auto-rickshaws were injured when they collided head on at Kharuabandha on Friday night.

Approval

Agartala: Union law minister Veerappa Moily on Saturday announced that the Chief Justice of India had approved a report filed by Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Madan Bhimrao Lukur, favouring the launch of the high court.
