Umshyrpi champions

Shillong, Nov. 12: Umshyrpi College today emerged champions in the (under-22) Inter-College Cricket Tournament, defeating Shillong College by six wickets at Polo Ground here.

After winning the toss, Shillong College elected to bat and scored 126 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sylvester Pdah scored a brilliant 65 runs from 59 balls, which also earned him the Best Batsman award. Uttam Chanda, who claimed one wicket to add to his tally, walked away with the Best Bowler award. Umshyrpi College got off to a good start but fumbled in the middle overs due to some tight bowling and fielding by Shillong College. They reached the target in the last ball of the innings.

Man of the Match Anil Gurung steered his team to victory with a scintillating knock of 49 runs (not out) off 64 balls. Peter Anglican’s all- round performance and captaincy won him the Man of the Tournament award.

Deputy chief minister B.M. Lanong and youth co-ordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, S. Singh, gave away the prizes.

The tournament was organised by the Shillong Cricket Association in partnership with APPH Publishers.
