Imphal, Nov. 9: After a gap of 22 years, Arambam Bobby brought home for India the second Mr World title in the WBPF 2nd World Body Building Championship held in Varanasi from October 27 to November 1.
The Mr World title-holder was feted by Manipur People’s Party, along with the Langthabal Kendra Development Committee and the All Manipur Gymnastics Association at the MPP office at Imphal Polo Ground today.
Bobby clinched the coveted gold medal for the Mr World title in the 75kg category. He is only the second Indian to do so after Premchand Dogra.
The 36-year-old Bobby, a native of Lilong Chajing in Imphal West, said he would be working towards defending his title in the next championship.
He urged his fellow body- builders to devote time and energy to the sport and also sought support from the sports-loving public.
In the early stages, Bobby started off with gymnastics and later switched to athletics. He took to body-building in 1995 under coach Yaiskul Singh at YBB Gym, Kiyamgei.
He took the Junior Mr Manipur title in the same year and the Mr Manipur title from the next year, bagging a job with NF Railways.
Bobby is also a seven-time Mr India titleholder since 1998.
Langthabal Kendra legislator O. Joy praised Bobby’s achievement. He also urged the state government to work out a specific sports policy.
