Two killed in a road mishap

Jorhat: Two persons, including a child, were killed in a road mishap in Bagori area of Goglaghat district around 4.30pm on Sunday. The accident occurred under Kuthuri police outpost when a Canter minibus travelling to Jorhat from Nagaon had a head-on collision with a Hyundai ILO car going to Guwahati from Jorhat. Official sources said Bimal Bothra, 35, and his daughter Neha, 5, succumbed to their injuries at the nearby Hathikhuli Tea Estate hospital.

Team visit

Jorhat: A six-member team of the standing committee of experts of the Brahmaputra Board visited areas from Salmora to Bengenati where five anti-erosion schemes of the board worth Rs 28 crore are under progress.

Body fished out

Dibrugarh: Police fished out the body of two students, Anup Dutta, 20 and Sengnong Ingling, 17, of Duliajan from the Buridehing on Sunday. The duo went missing on Friday from Sitakund where they went for a picnic with four others. Police suspect that the duo must have been swept away by the strong river current while bathing.

Youths die

Jorhat: Two youths, Nitya Nath Krishna, 18, and Krishna Pathak, 22, were killed in a road accident on NH-37 on Saturday night when the duo was returning home on a bicycle.

Jorhat: A Dibrugarh University student, Dharmendra Gogoi, 26, was killed in a road accident at Bhalukaguri in Sivasagar on Sunday.

15 shops gutted

Dhubri: In a devastating fire that broke out in Sarupeta market in Barpeta district, 15 shops were gutted and property worth Rs 30 lakh was reduced to ashes on Sunday night.

Drug peddler

Dhubri: Chagolia police arrested two persons, Shajahan Ali and Moidul Haque, with 98 bottles of cough syrup at Bhai Bazar in Dhubri district on Sunday night.
