Man run over

Kokrajhar, Nov. 5: A speeding goods train ran over an unidentified man, around 30-years-old, near Santinagar railway crossing gate, west of Kokrajhar railway station in Kokrajhar around 1pm. Sources said the man was coming on foot from the west gate.

AASU protest

Guwahati: The All Assam Students Union has called for a satyagraha on November 16 in Guwahati to protest against the Centre and the state government’s failure to update the NRC, implement the Assam Accord and failure to provide the indigenous people with constitutional safeguards. The students’ organisation has also called for a mass gathering in Guwahati on November 20 on the issue of NRC update.

Kalita tour

Guwahati: Assam PCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita left for New York on Friday to participate in the ongoing 65th session of the United Nation’s general Assembly. Kalita also met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi before his departure.

Kidnap bid

B>n Itanagar (PTI): Unidentified persons attempted to abduct two engineers of Gammon India Ltd on Wednesday, a fortnight after an abortive attempt to kidnap the company’s project-in-charge in East Kameng district, police said on Friday. A case was registered with Seppa police station.

Two arrested

Dhubri: A CID team from Guwahati arrested Monoarul Pradhani and Aminur Islam of Dharmasala village in Dhubri on Thursday night on charges of alleged forgery and cheating.
