C for Chocolate

Cute. Comfy. Couldn’t-care-less-about-calories yummy. If that’s what you are looking for while you chill out with friends, head for Cad b. The new chocoholic’s haven, part of an all-India chain, spells youth in bold colours and pocket-friendly prices.

The 300sq ft space at 42/6 Paddapukur Road, off Sarat Bose Road, is decked out in white and red. Co-owned by sisters Seema Sanei and Anjana Bajoria, the Calcutta outlet boasts a sinful menu of chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate — dark, milk, white or any way you like.

“We came across a Cad b store in Pune and it was packed with students. The prices and the ambience interested us and that’s why we decided to approach the company for a franchise,” explains Seema.

A signature medium-sized Cad b drink (part-mousse, part-shake and totally soul-satisfying) comes for Rs 50 while a heady chocolate shot is priced at Rs 35. A delicious Chocolate Sandwich, grilled with cheese and butter and topped with more chocolate, also costs Rs 35. Other hot picks at the choco bar are the Ferrero Cad (overloaded with hazelnuts), the Cad M (unadulterated dark chocolate shake) and the White Cad (white chocolate drink). “A group of five to six youngsters can come here and indulge themselves for just around Rs 250,” says Anjana. “Calcutta lacks affordable hang-outs for students. Many Calcutta kids who study in Pune have thanked us for opening Cad b,” smiles Seema.

If cocoa isn’t your thing, there are seasonal fresh fruit shakes, priced between Rs 50 and Rs 120. Keeping in mind the on-the-go crowd and night-crawlers, Cad b is open from 11am to 11pm and also has a drive-in counter, from where people are served in cars. Home delivery is also available within a short radius.
