Jorhat tennis meet in Dec.

Guwahati, Oct. 25: Jorhat Tennis Club will host two of the three international ranking tennis meets to be held under the banner of the All- Assam Tennis Association (AATA) in the first fortnight of November.

The AATA will be holding five ranking tournaments, including two All-India Tennis Association meets, in a month starting today. The monthlong events commenced with the AITA Championship Series (an under-16 and under-18 national ranking event) at the Chachal Tennis Complex here today.

It will be followed by the Jorhat meets — the Asian Juniors (under-14) ranking meet from November 1 to 5 and the ITF Seniors (for men above 35 years) from November 8 to 13.

Elaborating on the clay court meets, AATA secretary Raktim Saikia said although foreign players were yet to file entries for the Asian Juniors, most of the leading players of the country would participate in the tournament.

“Besides, there will be a huge turnout for the qualifying rounds scheduled for October 30 and 31,” he added.

senior’s event will be held in the above-35, above-45 and above-55 years’ age groups for men.

“Foreign players are yet to file entries for the seniors’ event too. However, some of the best veteran players of the nation are expected to participate,” Saikia said.

The series of tournaments will be wrapped up with the ITF Junior under-18 Ranking Tournament at the Chachal Tennis Complex here from November 22 to 27.

“We are expecting a better turnout than the earlier editions of the meet this time,” the AATA secretary said.
