Kokrajhar, Oct. 24: Assam water resources minister Prithibi Majhi assured the people of Gossaigaon sub-division in Kokrajhar district of a multi-crore rupee protection structures for the Sonkosh river.
Majhi visited Srirampur and Surendrapur of Jaraguri areas of Gossaigaon sub-division on Saturday and assessed the erosion-prone areas along the Sonkosh.
Majhi was accompanied by BTC executive member in-charge of water resources Mono Kr. Brahma, Gossaigaon MLA Majen Narzary, BTC executive member Sabharam Basumatary among others.
Later, talking to reporters, the water resources minister said his visit was to study the intensity of erosion by the Sonkosh river and take an effective measures for permanent protection of the same.
He said a detailed project report would be made soon after the proper survey of the river and the multi-crore rupee protection project would be sent to the Centre for financial sanction.
Majhi said apart from the Sonkosh, the water resources department has taken steps for the protection of riverbanks at Aie, Manas, Puthimary and Pagladia.
For start of the Sonkosh riverbank protection of 27km, he said Rs. 3.5 crore would be released soon, adding that the state government would take all steps in the near future.
