Jamshedpur, Oct. 23: Ranchi A team reigned supreme by annexing men’s and women’s team championship titles in the 9th Jharkhand State Table Tennis Championship held at New Badminton Stadium.
While the men’s outfit from the state capital drubbed Ranchi B 3-0 in the finals, the women’s team came better against Ranchi B 3-1. Ranchi has fielded four teams in the championship.
The trio of Neeladhri Roy, Sumit Roy and former national paddler Samarjeet Singh made a clean sweep of the singles matches.
Neeladhri defeated Devesh Kumar 12-10, 11-8, 11-6 while Sumit overcame stiff resistance from Rony before finally prevailing 11-3, 6-11, 11-9, 15-13. Samarjeet brushed aside the challenge of Sushant Kumar with a 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 victory.
The women’s outfit from Ranchi A also put in a great performance.
While Tanya Mondol put it across Ruksha Kumari 10-8, 11-6, 11-8 in the first singles, Tulika Roy overcame Priyanka Kumari 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 in the second. Deepshikha Kumari, however, lost to Afreen Naaz 7-11, 5-11, 8-11. Later, Tulika sealed the fate of Ranchi B by posting a 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 win over Ruksha.
Individual matches in the junior sections will be staged on the concluding day tomorrow.
