Sanil gets a break

New Delhi: Young paddler Sanil Shetty is the only new face in the 10-member table tennis squad, to be led by Sharath Kamal, for the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

Shetty replaced Ravichandran Abhishek, who was part of India’s bronze-winning men’s team in Commonwealth Games.

Indian men’s team will also have former national champion Subhajit Saha, with whom world number 40, Sharath, shared the table to clinch a gold in CWG doubles competition. Soumyadeep Roy and Anthony Amalraj complete the men’s squad.

Poulami Ghatak and her partner Mouma Das, who won doubles bronze in CWG, will be the mainstay of the women’s squad, also including former India No. 1 Kumaresan Shamini.

Meanwhile, CWG gold medallists K. Ravi Kumar and Y. Renubala Chanu will lead a 13-member Indian weightlifting squad in Guangzhou.
