Sterlite breather

New Delhi, Oct. 18: Sterlite Industries today won a reprieve till mid-December on closure of its copper smelting plant in Tuticorin, with the Supreme Court asking the Centre, the Tamil Nadu government and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board to state why action was taken against the company despite it complying with green norms.

ONGC blow

New Delhi, Oct. 18: British energy major BP has announced the sale of its Vietnam assets to its Russian unit. ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the overseas arm of the state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, was keen to buy BP’s 35 per cent stake in gas producing block 06.1. At present, OVL has 45 per cent interest in the block.

Haldia plant

Calcutta, Oct. 18: Haldia Petrochemicals has said its naphtha cracker plant is now operating at peak capacity, achieving an all-time high throughout after taking an unscheduled shutdown for maintenance. All polymer plants are also operating at full capacities.
