Airport death
Dubai, Oct. 10 (PTI): A Chennai woman lost her passport on her way back home and died at Muscat airport, apparently from trauma-induced cardiac arrest after red tape kept Indian embassy officials from helping her in time.
Beebi Lumada, 40, a housemaid travelling from Muscat to Chennai via Doha by a Qatar Airways flight last week, lost her passport while in transit at the Doha airport. When her passport was not found, she was sent back to Muscat.
Delhi tragedy
New Delhi (PTI): A beggar was killed and nine people were injured in three accidents in south Delhi on Sunday, one involving a car being driven by a French national, police said. M.J. Villaird has been arrested after his vehicle ran over the beggar.
Fake cards
New Delhi (PTI): Around 1.78 crore fake ration cards have been detected across the country from 2006 to August 2010 and subsequently cancelled, sources in the food ministry have said.
Brigadier
New Delhi (PTI): A brigadier, censured for allegedly attempting to violate the modesty of an officers wife, has challenged the armys court martial policy in the Armed Forces Tribunal. The policy violated Supreme Court judgments by not providing the complete report of the Court of Inquiry, he said.
Tongue cut
Sitapur (PTI): A 40- year-old man called Ram Gopal chopped off his tongue at a temple at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday as an offering to the deity during Navratri, police said.
Hawala raid
Indore (PTI): An inter-state gang dealing in hawala transactions was busted with the arrest of three persons in a raid on Saturday. Around Rs 95 lakh was seized from them, police have said. Kannu Devda, Mukesh Patel and Vishnu Patel hailed from Gujarat.
