Ayodhya meeting

Ayodhya, Oct. 8 (PTI): Three key parties in the Ayodhya title suits — the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, Hashim Ansari and the Nirmohi Akhara — today came together for the first time on a public stage to discuss a “formula” for a negotiated settlement.

“We want to create a situation where Hindus do kar seva for the construction of a mosque and Muslims do similar services for a temple,” All India Akhara Parishad mahant Gyan Das said, without spelling out the details. He said the Ayodhya issue could not be “settled through court”.

Midnapore: Suspected Maoists shot dead a CPM branch committee secretary in West Midnapore on Friday. Ranjit Duley, 40, was returning home to Belpahari on a cycle from the BDO office when he was killed.

UN listing

New Delhi (PTI) : Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh have been shown as “independent entities” by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, which said this is its approach towards “disputed” areas. The UN had so far treated Kashmir as a dispute between India and Pakistan and Arunachal as part of India.
