Death sparks murder cry

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 21: The villagers of Pahana in Kendrapara district today alleged that 22-year-old Jyotirmayee Pani, who died under mysterious circumstances on September 6, was murdered by her family members.

Around 40 people including 30 women from Pahana met chairperson of the state women commission Dr Jyoti Panigrahy here today and demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

The villagers, who were accompanied by Rirupurna Mohanty, secretary of a city-based NGO Maa Ghar, said that the girl was murdered by her father Duryodhan Pani and her aunt Susanti Das who were alleged to have an illicit affair.

The role of the girl’s mother has also come under suspicion.

The body of Jyotirmayee was found floating in a pond adjacent to her house on September 8.
