Imphal, Sept. 21: The state government announced a cash incentive of Rs 1 lakh for boxing champion MC Mary Kom on her fifth boxing title.

Mary Kom bagged her fifth consecutive boxing title in the 6th World Women’s Boxing Championship in Barbados, punching out rival Romanian Steluta Duta by 16-6 points.

Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat termed Mary Kom’s feat as a landmark achievement.

Chief minister O. Ibobi Singh described her as a daughter of Manipur and said her success would serve as an inspiration. Youth and sports affairs minister N. Biren hoped she would win an Olympic gold.
