Guwahati, Sept. 21: Hosts Assam had to be content with the bronze in the women’s regu event of the 21st Senior National Sepak Takraw Championship at the Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here this evening.
The former champions defeated Delhi in two straight sets in the third place playoff this evening. Assam won the match 21-12, 21-13 for their second bronze in the tournament.
The women’s team yesterday bagged the team event bronze, defeating Maharashtra 2-0 in the third place playoff.
Manipur will clash with Nagaland in the final this evening.
Earlier this afternoon, Manipur blanked out Assam women 21-14, 21-17 in the semi-finals.
Nagaland tamed Delhi 21-9, 21-8.
The Manipur men have also booked a berth in the men’s regu event quarter-finals, winning all their Group A league matches played today.
The other group leagues were under way till later this evening and the quarter-final line-up is likely to be determined only by tomorrow, tournament officials said.
Some of the other states who were in contention for the round of eight berths included Nagaland, SSB and hosts Assam.
Manipur in an outstanding performance yesterday annexed double crowns, winning both the men and women’s team event for the 20th straight time.
