Jamshedpur, Sept. 19: The body of a 30-year-old man was found in mysterious circumstances inside a school building at Gandhi Maidan under Olidih police station area of Mango this morning.
The body was finally identified late afternoon as that of Krishna Mohan Thakur, a resident of Muri in Ranchi district.
Police suspect Thakur was murdered, as his ears were bleeding and there were scratch marks on his neck. However, they spotted a couple of painkillers beside the body, which indicated that he might have died of some disease.
Deputy superintendent of police (headquarters-II) S.K. Srivastava said the police were unable to find details of Thakur, but they had learnt that he was an absconder.
Srivastava said Thakur was married and was staying with his wife and two children at a place under Khelari police station area in Ranchi. About 15 days earlier, Thakur’s children and wife were found dead inside their house, he added. “The door of the house was locked from outside. Suspecting him of murdering his wife and children, Thakur’s in-laws had lodged an FIR against him with Khelari police station. Since then, he was on the run.”
“Thakur had been hiding at different places and was finally believed to have taken shelter at the school building in Gandhi Maidan,” Srivastava said.
According to sources, Thakur had taken food from children during the midday meal at the school yesterday. The children had also offered him bananas and medicines.
Srivastava said the police had registered a case of unnatural death and sent Thakur’s body to the MGM Medical College mortuary. The case might be converted into one of murder, depending on the post-mortem report.
, the deputy superintendent of police added.
The police were clueless about how Thakur’s occupation and how he landed in the city.
