Fashion carnival
It’s all about style at the sixth season of the Seagram’s Blenders Pride Fashion Tour. Calcutta is the fifth stop for the fashion tour after Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai, to be followed by Bangalore. And the aisle story in the city is spread over two days, beginning today. On the first day, the designer names include Shantanu & Nikhil, Raghavendra Rathore, Rahul & Gunjan and Asmita Marwah. Sunday will see prominent names including Mandira Wirk, Surily Goel, Nandita Mahtani and Wendell Rodricks showcasing their creations. The Wendell Rodricks Eye Candy collection for the event is a visit to a candy shop. This season the attempt by the Rathore Jodhpur brand is to highlight cuts from the Far East to rediscover shapes that are new to our origins.

Dastangoi is a narrative adaptation of the Tilism-e-Hoshruba, dealing with the exploits of Amir Hamza, the Islamic warrior, against the emperor of sorcerers, Afrasiab.

MEET

September 11 at The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 6 Netaji Subhas Road; 6.30 pm: Heroines of Satyajit Ray, presented by The Bengal Chamber and Onnomon. The programme, a form of homage to the legendary filmmaker, has been conceptualised as an adda. (a joint venture of NFDC and Xanathus productions), the first experimental venture into feature film by renowned theatre personality Shyamanand Jalan, who passed away in May. The film, based on Dibyendu Palit’s award -winning short story Mukabhinaya, is about a group of mime actors who silently suffer till they revolt and kill their leader.
