Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9: A new website called www.glypho.com aims to promote writers, novelists, journalists and litterateurs and help them in writing novels and other works of fiction.
“Glypho is a place on the internet for all of us to share ideas and brainstorm to create something wonderful,” said Ambika Sukla, founder-editor of the website.
“We need to put our collective wisdom into a common project.
“Think about the infinite possibilities our intellectual diversity can create. Glypho is a cool, unique and very flexible tool for group novel writing. It is designed to reduce the loneliness that most writers face,” he said.
He said many internet users write blogs, post messages and comments on bulletin boards, send instant messages and thereby, share their ideas and experiences.
“Glypho aims to capture this diverse collective wisdom towards long-lasting creative endeavours like novel writing,” he said.
“Anyone can submit a story idea. Others will follow with characters and plot ideas and some will take these ideas and contribute a chapter. If there are multiple chapter contributions, the best is voted by the readers,” said Sukla.
During the voting period, readers can help the writers refine their chapters through reviews and feedback.
“This way, chapter by chapter, a novel is created,” said Sukla.
One of the major advantages of glypho, according to Sukla, is that it opens the logical building blocks of a novel like character and plot ideas for brainstorming. “The building blocks offer many ways to contribute, and a member can choose one that suits one’s interest and expertise,” said Sukla.
A reader actively following a novel in progress may at some point spot an opportunity to contribute. It could be an idea about what can happen next in the chapter or some interesting detail about the setting or background of the novel,” said Sukla.
Glypho’s strengths are in its openness to both the writers and the readers.
“It separates idea inflow and content inflow. This separation makes it possible for writers to contribute content based on ideas from non-writers,” he said.
The website brings together people that relate to a common theme and empowers them to toss ideas with each other and create an enduring piece of work.
Describing the website as “an eclectic blend of synaptic, syntactic and synergetic fiction publishing”, he said the other features that glypho provides are an online web-based editor with integrated spellchecker and dictionary.
It also includes carefully designed pages to keep all information at the author's fingertips through tabs and collapsible toolbars.
