Nehu VC demand

Shillong, Sept.7: The Joint Action Committee, comprising Nehu Teachers’ Association and Nehu Non-Teaching Association, in a joint meeting with North Eastern Hill University Students Union today announced that a new vice-chancellor should assume office after Pramod Tandon’s term ends on September 12.

Ulfa militant

Jorhat: An alleged Ulfa militant, Ismail Hussain, was apprehended by the army at Namtichariali area on Tuesday. A 9mm pistol and ammunition were recovered from him.

Duped

Jorhat: A retired school teacher of Borigaon was allegedly duped of Rs 2 lakh from her SBI account here. According to police sources, Anjuri Sarmah Kotoky, was cheated by a person who she had asked for help while withdrawing money from an ATM on September 2.

Truck seized

Dhubri: A truck loaded with 760kg of hem was seized at Chagolia inter-state checkpost in Dhubri district on Tuesday.

Accident

Dhubri: Ten passengers were injured while the driver died on the spot when an ambulance collided with a truck on NH 31 in Dumorodoh on Tuesday.

CM’s arrival

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi will be back in state, after a heart surgery, on September 10. He will join office from September 13.

Apprehended

Dhubri: Sultan Ali, 30, and Sukur Ali, 40, of Mantrirchar village were apprehended by jawans from the Indo-Bangla border on Tuesday.
