Guwahti, Sept. 7: BJP national secretary and MP Varun Gandhi has appealed to the young members of the party to win the confidence of the people of the state.
Gandhi, who arrived in the state on his maiden visit on Tuesday, was speaking at a meeting-cum-workshop of the members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and the Mahila Morcha.
Varun, who has often been dubbed as the party’s face for the future, was accorded a red carpet welcome at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport.
From the airport, the young MP headed straight to the Maheswari Bhavan at Aathgaon in the city where the workshop for the young members of the party was held.
“We, particularly the young members of the party, should go to the masses and win their hearts,” said Varun, while addressing hundreds of members of the morcha and the Mahila Morcha.
“There is a need to stand by the people of the state. If we can stand by the people in times of their sorrows as well as in times of happiness, there is nothing like it. Then we don’t need to go to them asking or begging for votes. People will automatically vote for us,” he said.
In the evening, the BJP leader held a meeting with the prominent citizens and mediapersons at a hotel in the city.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm within the party about his maiden visit. During his two-day stay, he will take feedback from around 2,500 grassroots and senior leaders and kick start our preparations for the Assembly polls,” said Dilip Saikia, state BJP secretary in-charge of Barpeta district.
Gandhi is expected to address a workers’ meet at Khanapara Indoor stadium at 11am tomorrow.
Later, Gandhi is expected to take part in a meeting of the office-bearers of the Assam unit of the BJP.
