Jamshedpur, Sept. 7: A 19-year-old unemployed youth’s frustrated attempts to woo a 17-year-old girl turned violent as he stabbed the girl’s brother and mother at their residence in Kapali, Chandil, at Seraikela-Kharsawan district early this morning.
The youth, Sajid Ansari, who had been unsuccessfully pursuing the schoolgirl for a year, tried to enter her residence around 6am by pretending to be the owner of the auto-rickshaw that her brother drove for a living. But when the brother prevented him, Sajid stabbed him in the stomach with a knife. Hearing the commotion, the mother tried to protect her son from further injury by holding on to the knife. But she too was slashed in the chest.
As mother and son slumped to the ground, the father rushed out to see the duo “lying in a pool of blood”. He and other family members and neighbours caught hold of Sajid, gave him a public thrashing and handed him over to the police. Mother and son were rushed to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, where the son’s condition is stated to be “serious”.
The girl’s father, who works for a transport company, said Sajid had been trying to befriend his daughter, a Class X student, on her way to school, and that he would pass obscene comments. Sajid had also tried to molest her, alleged the father.
Chandil circle inspector K.N. Mishra confirmed Sajid’s arrest.
“The youth had been booked in January for trying to molest the girl. We are trying to ensure that he is convicted in court at the earliest,” said Mishra, adding that they had seized his knife.
