Buddha on OBC card

B>nChief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee announced on Sunday that the state government would start the process of distribution of OBC certificates to Muslims from September 22.

Man detained

B>nPolice detained a man in his 40s on Sunday for loitering suspiciously in front of the chief minister’s house on Palm Avenue. The man, identified as Animesh Bhattacharya from Dum Dum, said he wanted to meet Bhattacharjee.

Fraud

B>nSupriyo Mukherjee, 38, a Behala resident, was detained at the airport on Sunday on charges of duping a group of traders and impersonation in Bangkok. Mukherjee had allegedly posed as director of CBI and stolen gold ornaments and cash from the group.

Envoy dead

B>nGünter Wehrmann, 62, the German consul general in Calcutta, died of cancer early on Sunday at a south Calcutta hospital. He was cremated at Keoratala burning ghat in the afternoon according to his wishes. He came to Calcutta in 2005.
