Calcutta, Aug. 27: The drought-related losses in the state have been estimated at Rs 6,435 crore, finance minister Asim Dasgupta said today.
The minister said the state would lose Rs 6,250 crore in agriculture and Rs 153 crore in fisheries.
Dasgupta reviewed the drought situation at a meeting with agricultural experts, agriculture minister Naren De, panchayat development minister Anisur Rahman and disaster management minister Mortaza Hossain this afternoon.
To combat the drought-like situation, we need around Rs 954 crore immediately. The state government will arrange for Rs 354 crore. We will ask the Centre for the remaining Rs 600 crore, Dasgupta said.
