BIT Sindri waits for its software park

Dhanbad, Aug. 26: A three-member team of the state information technology department led by deputy director Shiv Bilash Sahu has completed its inspection of the site of a proposed software technology park at BIT, Sindri.

After inspecting the three-acre plot, the team expressed its satisfaction over infrastructure facilities available at BIT, but was far from happy about the sorry state of Dhanbad-Sindri Road that connects the institute with Dhanbad railway station.

The team will soon submit a feasibility report, based on which the Centre will provide funds to the state information technology department for developing infrastructure for the park. Earlier, the BIT administration had submitted a no objection certificate and other details to the information technology department. The district administration had also given its nod.

Speaking to The Telegraph, head of BIT Sindri’s information technology department D.K. Singh said the team which visited the institute on Sunday was pleased with the presence of a cluster of industries including BCCL, FCI, PDIL, ACC, SAIL and ECL, besides a number of technical and scientific institutes and three polytechnic institutes in the district.

“The park in Dhanbad which will be the second in the state after Namkum in Ranchi. It will be a boon for students and teachers of BIT besides the common people of the district,” said Singh, also the head of the department of electronics and communications engineering at the institute.

“The host institute may get the opportunity to avail the services of experts at the park while students will also get projects as part of their curriculum,” Singh said, adding that with the presence of so many offices at the park, the placement scenario of the host institute would also improve.
