Imphal, Aug. 19: Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union drew 1-1 with Eastern Sporting Union in the 5th Manipur State League played at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
Eastern Sporting Union, which had plenty of young blood in theirs ranks, played much better with co-ordinated moves compared to Tiddim Road Unique, who seemed to have trouble in their forward line and struggled in the match.
Sporting Union gained the upper hand in the 15th minute of play as N. Rakesh Singh, running on the right flank, sent a cross towards the Tiddim Road goalmouth. It was Kh. Keneth Chiru who slammed home a goal for the lead.
The match was evenly fought though Tiddim Road Unique Gamy had a tough time as the forwards failed to penetrate the Eastern Sporting defence. However, their luck changed in the 33rd minute from a free kick as L. Lokesh Singh sent a curling shot to the goal, beating the keeper for the equaliser.
The second half proved to be a stale affair as both the teams held the ball rather than go for the kill, thus sharing a point each.
Eastern Sporting Union player K. Ratan Singh and Tiddim Road Unique’s K. Priyojit Singh were shown yellow cards in the second half.
In another match, former champions Tiddim Road Athletic Union routed new entrant Youth Development Organisation 9-1.
Lunminlal Khongsai scored four goals while teammates S. Herojit scored three, L. Bankim and L. Tiken Singh chipped in with a goal each. The lone goal for Youth Development Organisation was scored by N. Joykumar Singh.
