SAIL’s Kulti move

New Delhi, Aug. 18: State-run SAIL will enter into a pact next month with RITES, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, to jointly set up a railway wagon making unit at Kulti in Bengal. “We will sign the agreement next month for the joint venture unit with RITES,” SAIL chairman C.S. Verma said. The proposed unit will have an annual production capacity of 1,200 wagons.

Sugar stock

New Delhi, Aug. 18: The government has decided to relax stockholding limit on bulk sugar consumers by allowing them to keep the sweetener for 90 days of their use from the current 15 days. The decision comes amid a 40 per cent fall in sugar prices in the last seven months to Rs 30 a kg from Rs 48 a kg.

Dell feat

New Delhi, Aug. 18: Dell has overtaken HP in the personal computer market in India for the first time, according to research firm IDC. For the June quarter, Dell had a 15.2 per cent share of the PC market, while HP trailed at 14.3 per cent.

Retail FDI

New Delhi, Aug. 18: The commerce ministry has made a strong case for opening up the multi-brand retail sector for foreign direct investment, stating that the move will help both consumers and producers, particularly of agricultural items.

Alcatel talks

New Delhi, Aug. 18: Alcatel-Lucent is in talks with various service providers, including Reliance Industries and Tikona Digital Networks for deploying infrastructure for mobile broadband services.

PNB rate

New Delhi, Aug. 18: Punjab National Bank (PNB) will offer home loans at 8.5 per cent. The concessional rate has been fixed for three years for housing loans up to Rs 50 lakh.

SkyTECH

Calcutta, Aug. 18: SkyTECH Solutions, in association with the Konkan Railway Corporation, has installed a railway information kiosk at the Margao station in Goa.
